Alumni - MAPNET 2011-2013 - Second Edition

Valerija Kamchevska received her Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies, specialty Telecommunications from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia in 2011. She received double MSc degrees from the Erasmus Mundus program MAsters on Photonic NETworks engineering (MAPNET) from Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Pisa, Italy and Aston University, Birmingham, United Kingdom in 2013. She is currently working towards her Ph.D. degree in End-to-End Energy Efficient Communication Systems, Networks and Applications at the Department of Photonics Engineering, Technical University of Denmark.
Ketemaw Addis Mekonnen received his BSc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Mekelle University, Ethiopia in 2007. He then served as a Network-Operation Engineer in Ethio-Telecom for four years before he joined the Master on Photonic Networks Engineering (MAPNET) program in 2011. He was later awarded a double MSc. degree from Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Italy and Aston University, United Kingdom in 2013. He is now a PhD candidate at Eindhoven University of Technology, working on Dynamic Optical Routing and Radio-over-Fibe (RoF) techniques for broadband optical-in-building networks in the Electro-Optic (ECO) group in the university.
I am Wajahat Ali from Pakistan. I did my bachelors in Electrical engineering back in 2007 with a distinction (Gold Medal). After my degree, I started my career as a RF Planning and Optimization Engineer in Telenor Pakistan. My job description included cell site planning, frequency planning as well as optimization of BTS sites. After spending 4 good years with Telenor I decided to enhance my educational span and therefore sought MAPNET scholarship. MAPNET program groomed me as a professional optical communication engineer. Based on my Masters program I was able to secure Marie Curie PhD position in Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna Pisa Italy.
My name is Rosen Georgiev and I have finished my Bachelor degree in the field of Telecommunications at Technical University of Sofia. I have partaken in MAPNET programme in 2011, obtaining my master degrees from SSSUP and TU-Berlin and having done my thesis at Osaka University. Currently I am employed at Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and I am applying for Phd position in the field of optical characterisation of nano-scale layers of mesoporous materials.
Haryo Wisanggeni. Following my graduation from University of Indonesia (UI) in 2006, I worked as a CDMA core network trainer at UI-Huawei Research and Training Center, a research and training center for CDMA and NGN networks for 2 years. In 2008, I worked as Operations Support System (OSS) Engineer at PT. XL Axiata, the second largest GSM & WCDMA operator company in Indonesia for 3 years. Under Erasmus Mundus scholarsip from European Union, I then enrolled Master of Photonics Network (MAPNET) course. In my third semester, I did one month internship at Mitsubishi Electric R & D Center. Currently, I am working as OSS System Integration in Huawei. I am truly grateful that I could be part of MAPNET program. MAPNET program has broaden my horizon and given me the skills and knowledge I am looking for.
Swati Bhargava. I am Swati Bhargava from India. I received B.Tech. degree in Communications and Computer Engineering from LNMIIT, India with Director's Gold Medal. During this time, I also carried out an internship at CEIICP, SSSUP, Pisa, Italy. Our research work received 'Best Paper Award' in IEEE, ICC-2010, Cape Town, SA. Later, I worked with Ericsson in India for one year as an Engineer. I was awarded with Erasmus Mundus Scholarship for Master's in Photonic Networks Engineering for the year 2011-13 and I obtained double Master's Degree from Aston University, Birmingham, UK and Scuola Superiore Sant' Anna, Pisa, Italy. I carried out my master's thesis on "Digital Signal Processing in Optical Communications " in Aston University, UK. Currently, I am pursing MS in Optics from Institute of Optics at University of Rochester, NY, USA and am also working as a Teaching Assistant in the university. I feel very proud to be a part of MAPNET program, which opened my horizons in the field of Optics and Photonics.
Jalil Ahmed. I did my undergraduate in Opto-electronics soon after that I got an opportunity to study my master in MAPNET program. As mobility option I selected TU Berlin, Germany and SSSUP, Pisa, Italy. I worked in Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI), Berlin where I worked on power line standard based visible light communication. I also worked in Photonics Lab, TU Berlin with a group working on Silicon platform for design and fabrication of passive optical component. Currently I am employed as Research Associate in GIK institute.
